Ventura River Preserve

523 South Rice Road, Ojai California 93023

Notes

This trail head is a short easy hike down to the Ventura River. The river is lined with smooth river rocks and can provide countless hours of crawling. You can also cross the river in some places and continue on the trails which roam all over the moutains and overlook the nearby Lake Casitas Resvoir.

A great place to go hiking. Would recommend that you check if the water is still there before hiking there. Besides the lack of water sometimes it is still a very fun hike plus the hike is fairly easy.

Really awesome hiking. We followed a fairly easy trail, but at the time the river was flowing pretty well so we didn't cross it. I'd recommend coming here prepared to cross the river if you want to get the full experience. Not too busy and really nice open spaces. The trail was well kept.

The swim area has drastically changed. It's very shallow all over now. There is a lot of "beach" area to set up. It's a great place for little ones since its deepest spot is about 4ft. It's still beautiful to hike and dip your feet and have a picnic. There is currently water in the first creek to the right as soon as you come down the hill from the parking lot. Watch out for the horse poop and beetles on the trail.

Great location if you need living water; small stream(s). Used to be a swimming hole. Just goes to show, even with the recent rains, how little rain we've gotten over the years.
